§ 2-251. Service pin.

  • (a)

    The city commission finds, determines and declares that a system affording due recognition to employees and elected officials with extended periods of service to the city will create a desirable employment atmosphere throughout the city, promote efficiency, and therefore be in the best interests of the citizens of the city.

    (b)

    Each employee and elected official of the city who has attained five (5), ten (10) and fifteen (15) years of continuous service with the city shall be awarded a service pin by the mayor. The pin shall be with the city seal and the number of years of service imprinted on the pin and shall measure approximately one-half (½) inch in diameter. Employees and elected officials who have attained twenty (20) and twenty-five (25) years of continuous service shall receive pins.

    (c)

    The budgeting and expenditure of funds under this section is declared to be for a city purpose in and for the city.

    (d)

    Employees who retire after a minimum of fifteen (15) years of service will receive a gift of an appropriate value not to exceed two hundred twenty-five dollars ($225.00), a retirement plaque and a framed certificate. Retiring police officers who retire after a minimum of fifteen (15) years of service and who retire in good standing may, if they elect, receive their service revolver instead of a two hundred twenty-five dollar ($225.00) gift. Retiring police chiefs who retire after a minimum of seven and one-half (7.5) years of service, and who retire in good standing, may receive their service revolver as a retirement gift.
