§ 2-204. Roles, responsibilities, meetings.

  • (a)

    The Leisure Services Advisory Board of the City of Sunrise, Florida is hereby authorized to:

    (1)

    Act in an advisory capacity to the director of leisure services in matters pertaining to parks and recreation.

    (2)

    Cooperate with other governmental agencies and civic groups in the advancement of leisure services planning.

    (3)

    Recommend policies, procedures and philosophies on recreation services for approval by the director of leisure services.

    (4)

    Advise the director on concerns and priorities of development of recreation areas, facilities, programs and improved recreation services.

    (5)

    Recommend the adoption of standards on recreation areas, facilities, programs and financial support.

    (6)

    Have periodic inventories made of recreation services that exist or may be needed in order to communicate the reported needs of the public to the director of leisure services. Participate in a process whereby leisure needs in the community will be assessed on a regular basis and long range plans for leisure services will be updated.

    (7)

    Advise the director on the development of long range capital improvements.

    (8)

    At the request of the director of leisure services, aid in coordinating recreation services with the programs of other governmental agencies and voluntary organizations.

    (9)

    Review the effectiveness of parks and recreation facilities and programs with the director of leisure services.

    (10)

    Communicate the policies and functions of the department to the public. Participate in a process of public review and revision of policies.

    (11)

    Provide a procedure for public access and input. This procedure may include the following:

    a.

    Citizens addressing the board will be provided an opportunity to be heard and their comments will be referred to the director of leisure services.

    b.

    The director of leisure services will report back to the board, for informational purposes, any actions arising from citizen comments to the board.

    c.

    In matters pertaining to the day to day operation of the department, the public is encouraged to deal directly with the staff of the department.

    (b)

    Monthly meetings will be held to act upon an agenda drawn up by the leisure services director of the city.
